WE MAKE BICYCLING MORE ACCESSIBLE FOR ALL
The Columbus Bicycle Co-op is Columbus, Indiana’s only not-for-profit community bike garage. Open to the public and located in the basement of the United Way building (1531 13th St., Columbus, IN), the Co-op exists to make bicycling an accessible and sustainable means of transportation and recreation for all residents of Bartholomew County. Volunteer based, we are always seeking eager learners who want to help out.
Classes, tools, parts, bikes, and work space are available for free or very little cost. Bike aficionado volunteers with knowledge of bike mechanics, bike safety, various types of riding, and local routes and trails are available to help you during open hours.
We don’t offer tune-up services nor will someone repair your bike for you, but volunteers will help you learn to do-it-yourself. We have most tools and parts that you may need. You can use the tools and take parts, but they may have a suggested donation.
A BRIEF HISTORY
Our founders, Loran Bohall, Justin (J-boy) Meier and Baylee Pruitt wanted to bring the model of the Bloomington Community Bike Project to their hometown, Columbus, Indiana. With the help of many bike-loving Columbus residents, they made it happen. Word spread, and people were drawn to the effort. In 2011, we moved into our fantastic space in the basement of the United Way of Bartholomew County’s building at 1531 13th Street. In 2014, with assistance from Voelz Law LLC and Healthy Communities, we achieved our 501(c)(3) status and became a registered not-for-profit organization.
We are currently open
Sundays from 2-5pm
Mondays from 4-7 pm
We are closed for major holidays.
